AI Planning

AI Planning is a field of Artificial Intelligence which explores the process of using autonomous techniques to solve planning and scheduling problems. A planning problem is one in which we have some initial starting state, which we wish to transform into a desired goal state through the application of a set of actions.

So, we have Forward State Space Planning (FSSP) and Backward State Space Planning (BSSP) at the basic level.

The planning in Artificial Intelligence is about the decision making tasks performed by the robots or computer programs to achieve a specific goal. The execution of planning is about choosing a sequence of actions with a high likelihood to complete the specific task.

In AI planning, planners typically input a domain model (a description of a set of possible actions which model the domain) as well as the specific problem to be solved specified by the initial state and goal, in contrast to those in which there is no input domain specified.
